Dropped my phone in the water (Can it be fixed)?

Post by Johannez691 » June 16th, 2011, 3:09 pm

I was swimming in the lake and forgot to take out the phone from my pocket on my shorts when I was jumpong in. I was swimming in around 10 minutes then when I got up I felt that my phone was in the pocket. I've opened the phone. Been using a hair dryer in it and now it's laying and drying during the night. It's a touch-phone. Can it still work? Do I need to do something else?

With a bit of luck then the display will work/look like it used to in a while.

Nice work btw!

That's pretty amazing considering the conditions it was in for a prolonged amount of time.

The fun thing that I swam to the deppest place of the lake and there was a bridge to jump from. So I jumpoed with my body like a nail and came very deep down the lake.

Well, all u need to do is tkae out the moisture from teh phone, do what I do
Put it in a ziplock bag in rice, the rice will suck up all the moisture and keep it in there for 3 days

Oops, didn't notice it was resolved.
I have heard rice works very well with that, but I think that method would only work with direct contact. The problem with your idea is that 99% of phones can't be disassembled, so to put it in rice you'd have to keep the cover on, which defeats the purpose of the rice. He'd have a better shot if he placed the phone (AFTER REMOVING THE BATTERY!) in an enclosed space that generated a fair amount of heat. Not enough to melt or damage components though! Just enough to lightly warm the phone and evaporate all the water. Or just leave it at room temperature for a week or so.

TL;DR : Rice doesn't work unless it's direct contact. Try using light heat to evaporate the water, obviously taking out the battery before hand to avoid battery acid everywhere.
The dirt in the display? Unless you can disassemble your phone, that's a no-go. You'll have to live with it unfortunately.
