Get a job instead of a weekly allowance from your parents, that should help you
next summer is the first time I'll have a chance at getting a job.
I usually do small things for my aunts and uncles most summers.

I don't like earphones simply because they don't render harmonics as well as a pair of headphones. I might choose earphones over headphones for portable use though, or simply to listen to metal/rock if not symphonic (where there's a lot of harmonics involved)

I'm ressurecting this thread ^.^
Used to have
http://www.monsterproducts.com/productd ... p?pin=7059
now with
http://www.monsterproducts.com/productd ... p?pin=6987
so much of a big difference between in-ear and on-ear headphones, didn't know it was that much, I'm finally very happy after searching for a good pair of headphones after 15 years. These things are hard to shop because you can't return it. And to top it off it's a tangle-free cord, no more messing around with it, it's just one cable not in a Y shape!

Philips SHM3100U, for $10
Looking for a earbud (prefer not in-ear) that's around $50 USD, any idea?

I have a old Logitech PS2 headset that I found in a flea market a couple of months ago. Believe it or not the mic sounds pretty good.

Just found The Ultimate Headphones Test - AudioCheck.net
http://www.audiocheck.net/soundtests_headphones.php
At the end, it suggests Superlux HD668B Dynamic Semi-Open Headphones for $43.19
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003JOETX8/
My budget is $50, is it good or there are better ones for $50?

Re: What kind of headset, earphones ect do you use?
Mine goes down to 20Hz and as high as 20kHz, which is good. It also means I haven't lost my ability to hear high frequencies yet ^^ The spectral flatness test is perfect in the bass/treble, and like a fraction too silent in the mids.
Dynamic range was 60dB from full.
The headphones did vibrate a bit at the lowest frequencies, which makes sense since they aren't very sturdy. At normal listening levels it's also not a problem.
Driver matching is slightly too loud in the left ear. This is most likely due to my broken cable though, which makes me lose audio completely in the right ear if I don't tape the cable correctly. I've noticed this problem earlier from when the cable first broke.
The rest of the tests complete fine.
I'd say that with headphones you best bet is always to go to a store and do hands-on testing with your phone/tablet/laptop/mp3-player, preferably a powerful one or it may not be able to output enough power to properly drive the headphones. Not everyone wants headphones with perfectly accurate sound (unless you're a producer), because as that page says, you have to take the properties of your own ears into account, your personal preferences, etc.

Re: What kind of headset, earphones ect do you use?
As I was saying (with images now though), I used to have the NCredible NErgy In-Ear Headphones by Monster, bad audio quality since it's so small.
Then I switched to the NCredible NTune On-Ear Headphones by Monster:
Their quality sound was really good for on over-the-ear type headphone but it's what I call a broken design. Everytime you put it on your head or remove it, you're bending the frame which is in... plastic! They broke and there's no fix. I really like the fact you could remove the sound cable and, also, that you could put it in the other ear.
I'm back to shopping for headphones but no more stupid plastic frames this time!

Re: What kind of headset, earphones ect do you use?
I'm a total in-ear nut.
I can't stand the feeling of something enclosing me over my head lower than my brow.
I'm using $20 senheisers atm, because my previous JBL pair god lost within three weeks and I did not want to risk another $170 purchase.
I had some Beats in-ears as well, which I didn't use, because they felt really really vulnerable. Appearantly they broke without my intervention, good thing I didn't wear them out so quick then.
I do like JBL, just because they fit me better, but I wonder what else I can find with a $200 budget...

Re: What kind of headset, earphones ect do you use?
I forgot to say I switched a few months ago to V-MODA XS, the frame is military grade, the sound quality is the best I ever heard, sometimes I wish the sound could be a bit louder though but it's more than adequate. It is amazing how the sound is contained, I can listen to my music very loud but people around hears absolutely nothing. I like the look, it's small and can be carried around easily. It is a bit expensive but this one will last me a lifetime!

Re: What kind of headset, earphones ect do you use?
I usually use this cheap set that cost a fiver or something. They're pretty good quality considering how much I paid for them and they get the job done. There's a nostalgic aesthetic to listening to Caliente or Sensacion with a fairly average pair of headphones.
Sometimes however, I'll borrow my boyfriend's headphones which are these ones

These AKG's came free with my father's Sumsung s8. I was actually totaly blown away to how good they were. For a while they were available on ebay for $100.
I'm trying to be careful with them, but they do take a beating.
Braided wire, volume control, start/stop button and built in microphone.
