Lucky Star is more a 'slice of life'/'comedy' sort of thing.
Similiar to Azumanga Daioh but more colourful and cheeky.

I just checked wikipedia to see if that has anything to add and even so it's more-or-less what I wrote above.

In all honesty, it makes sense why people don't like it. My friends all like their rap and such, so it's obvious that if I ever were to introduce them to nightcore they wouldn't take to kindly to high-pitched vocals, cheesy lyrics and 'silly kicks.' Not to mention the 'high-on-life' riff that follow...
