Saddest Anime

What's the saddest anime you've watched so far?

I thought Clannad is a pretty sad anime. I cried a couple times.

The end of Chrono Crusade. The young couple dies while stting on a bench. They know they will die and starting crying and hugging each other, I can never watch that again.

Seriously. If you don't like sad animes, DON'T WATCH H2O: Footsprints in the sand. I never cried that way.

School days, shitty ending? it had one of the best endings, one that u wouldnt expect and is in some sense realistic. It is one of the most intense, frightening endings of an anime! had me on the edge of my chair!
a lot of ppl, think that it was a shit ending though.

I would have to agree with Clannad. It is the most saddest I've ever watched. Kanon would have to come second then Air 3rd....Now that i think about it they're all Animes made by key...>.<

Nice list there VocaloidHdSub. Indeed they are all by Key and I understand how they all top your saddest ones. He is great at causing tears..

I'd say that the saddest for me was Clannad, but i cried a bit at the end of angel beats, even though the very very VERY end is like a glimpse of hope, but since they haven't made another season, and prolly won't, i have to add that to the list of saddest anime i've watched. but the top 3 are the same as VocaloidHDSub.

Great anime list here,i might watch them someday,i just recently watched shakugan no shana since yesterday and finished it today, watched it every day, might be the best anime i've seen, this might be a happy anime, but at some points i've barely stoped myself from crying(the romance in this one is high i guess)...i'm daing a big sensitive guy.
The ending was a little sad because Shana and Yuji were going to die togheter holding their hands and i was like WTF?!Then when i saw that they were alive i was so freaking happy(with tears)!
I haven't watched some of the episodes whatsoever, but i will complete them tomorrow, after that i'll start with part two :3

It's been awhile since I've watched a sad one but I'd vote Voices From a Distant Star. Maybe Chobits but I can't quite remember this one just remember being upset.

While I don't believe that Code Geass has a completely sad ending to it, seeing as how Lelouch is riding on the cart with CC at the very end, but it is somewhat sad and melancholic knowing that Lelouch can never return to see his sister and other friends; that he is stuck with one person to depend on for the rest of time.

On another note; if they would have continued with the Claymore anime, it would have made for a great show. There is so much that they left out of the anime that was in the manga that it kind of makes me mad.

The worst part about anime though, is not knowing whether or not they will make another season of it :(

Well yesterday I finished watching Mirai Nikki, 26 episodes, 10 hours of watch time completed in 1 day, and I gotta say that I dont think that I cried this much with the ending of any anime, the anime itself is psychological mindfuck and horror/creepy and not sad at all (well the protagonist is a big cry baby), but only the ending, damn it was so fucking sad :')

Higurashi, whilst violent and somewhat hilarious, had really sad parts too.

Angel Beats had some sad scenes but not enough to make me cry.
Elfen Lied was also quite sad but still not enough.
Clannad made me close to crying.
The Code Geass ending didn't really make me cry, because like someone said before, its obvious he's still alive and living with C.C. Who wouldn't want to live the rest of their immortal life with a hot, young (well, she looks young) petite, green haired chick?
Believe it or not, there was one scene in Naruto that was quite sad but I forgot what it was because every character in that freaking anime has a sob story.
Toradora was also a bit sad at some parts and the soundtrack really helped make you feel the different moods throughout the series, but the ending wasn't so sad.
Eureka Seven wasn't very sad at the end, but it sort of gives you an empty feeling. Same thing as Eureka Seven AO. I mean, the dude saves the world but no one remembers him anymore?
Haruhi Suzumiya was the closest to make me cry. The endless eight arc was absolutely DREADFUL, hated every minute of it. And the ending of the anime didn't even really reach a climax. And while the movie was great, it also didn't leave a climatic feeling.

I cant believe Noone actually posted anime like Naruto... or One Piece... or Dragon Ball...

Just think guys! in Naruto i cryed like... SO MUCH! so many characters died... and in anything that has to do with Naruto's parents!? That was sadness!

In One Piece? WHEN ACE DIED?!?!?!?! AND WHITEBEARD!?!?!?

And Dragon Ball? well it had so many sad moments as well... Characters were dying all the time and the sadness level was over 9000...

If you ask me the main reason that make these Anime mainstream, is that they have FUCKIN MANY emotional parts! Happyness, sadness, love, awesomness, Anger!... and ofc... The feeling that you want them to NEVER END! :D

But ye... Higurashi i wouldn't say it was sad :d...

Elfen Lied is one of the sadest anime i have ever watched... maybe the saddest one!

and School days... well i wouldn't call sad... i would call it creepy! and retarded! In every episode i wanted to get in the screen and start punching the main character! ffs! but... i love this anime and its ending soooo much! :)
