Higurashi, whilst violent and somewhat hilarious, had really sad parts too.

Angel Beats, one of the best animes I've ever seen. So emotional.

Angel Beats had some sad scenes but not enough to make me cry.
Elfen Lied was also quite sad but still not enough.
Clannad made me close to crying.
The Code Geass ending didn't really make me cry, because like someone said before, its obvious he's still alive and living with C.C. Who wouldn't want to live the rest of their immortal life with a hot, young (well, she looks young) petite, green haired chick?
Believe it or not, there was one scene in Naruto that was quite sad but I forgot what it was because every character in that freaking anime has a sob story.
Toradora was also a bit sad at some parts and the soundtrack really helped make you feel the different moods throughout the series, but the ending wasn't so sad.
Eureka Seven wasn't very sad at the end, but it sort of gives you an empty feeling. Same thing as Eureka Seven AO. I mean, the dude saves the world but no one remembers him anymore?
Haruhi Suzumiya was the closest to make me cry. The endless eight arc was absolutely DREADFUL, hated every minute of it. And the ending of the anime didn't even really reach a climax. And while the movie was great, it also didn't leave a climatic feeling.

I cant believe Noone actually posted anime like Naruto... or One Piece... or Dragon Ball...

Just think guys! in Naruto i cryed like... SO MUCH! so many characters died... and in anything that has to do with Naruto's parents!? That was sadness!

In One Piece? WHEN ACE DIED?!?!?!?! AND WHITEBEARD!?!?!?

And Dragon Ball? well it had so many sad moments as well... Characters were dying all the time and the sadness level was over 9000...

If you ask me the main reason that make these Anime mainstream, is that they have FUCKIN MANY emotional parts! Happyness, sadness, love, awesomness, Anger!... and ofc... The feeling that you want them to NEVER END! :D

But ye... Higurashi i wouldn't say it was sad :d...

Elfen Lied is one of the sadest anime i have ever watched... maybe the saddest one!

and School days... well i wouldn't call sad... i would call it creepy! and retarded! In every episode i wanted to get in the screen and start punching the main character! ffs! but... i love this anime and its ending soooo much! :)

I just finished Elfen Lied, and it's quite sad and has a bad ending in my opinion.
I mean...Lucy dies while that diclonus-wannabe spreads the whole virus in the world...not cool...
Okay, i haven't read the manga, but...this stinks. :/

i guess i would make you happy if i told you that there is a possibility that Lucy didn't die!? I mean when the anime ends... after the ending song, it shows someone knocking the door and it lets us think who it might be! I say it was Lucy... lol it has been over 1 year since i ended Elfen lied :x

It is unknown who was the person knocking at the door, it could have been that scientist that always wanted to take a bath(i don't remember her name), she ripped the picture of Kohta when she was at Kakuzawa's office probably to help them out or something.
It could be Lucy, but still only a sillhouette was shown, so it depends on everyone's point of view. :p
By the way, did anyone notice the handsign Lucy is doing? What does it mean...i found out that it's a handsign used by El Greco in his paintings, but i never found out what it means.

Well if i were to EVEN THINK that Lucy died... i would go to japan and kill the man who wrote the manga/anime! so i just say to myself: YEE Luccy is alive! She knocked Kohta's door! woohoo!! :D. And like this i am not mad :) but ye it is up to the viewers decision ;p

In the manga Lucy literally died, but then i heard that she later resurrects or something like that.

if you want something that can remind you of Lucy's character or the Anime for that matter, then you should get on of those music boxes that plays the lilium melody :)

The Elfen Lied manga is A WAY more emotional and better than the anime. If you ever have the chance of reading it, please do so, you will not regret.

@ Mikumon, I mentioned Naruto. It was pretty sad, yes in some parts. Except at one point you realize that everyone has a sob story so you just stop caring altogether.

Well, the saddest Anime I watched until now was Clannad After Story.
In specific, the last episodes of it. The moments when Nagisa and Ushio died were just so sad. Thankfully, Tomoya remembers what happened after the time gets rolled back, but I think that the finish may have been a bit too rushed in. Anyhow, at certain parts, it was so sad that I cannot explain it.
